Welcome to my food journal! I am blogging what I eat everyday (exciting right). I am doing this so I feel more responsible for what I eat. Feel free to follow my progress. And if you are trying to lose weight and need someone to give you encouragement or to listen I am more than happy to be that person. I may not be the healthiest person now, but I am getting better.

3/7/10

I woke up and went to the gym early this morning (ok, it was 9am, but that is early for a Sunday). I don't work out on Monday's (I work too many hours to fit in the gym) so I wanted to make it a good day. Instead of swimming I decided to go on the elliptical. Kicked. My. Butt. I went full force for 50 minutes and burned 806 calories!! Whoo Hoo!!

I also joined the website www.myfitnesspal.com It is a good way to keep track of everything I am doing to lose weight.

3/6/10

I went to 24 Hour Fitness with Megan and Talia this morning. We did a water aerobics class. It was amazing!! The teacher was SO fast and energetic. It was so much fun! I was sweating so much and my heart was pounding. I kept putting my face in the water to cool we off. I feel so good and energized today. Kelly and I are going to Pike Place Market to get lunch and buy flowers for my mom and the house. Today is a good day to feel healthy. The sun is out, it is warm and I am still pumped from my work out!

Water is boring!!

I find water very boring. I know that Seattle water is better than most (if you don't believe me, try drinking tap water from Provo, UT). It isn't that it tastes BAD, it is just bbbllllaaaaahhh! I like excitement in my drinks!

I found my perfect solution! When my friend Sean came home from Iraq we went to the "welcome home" celebration at Ft. Lewis. It may have been the hottest experience of my life (and I am not talking about all the men in uniform!! I think it was 120° in there).

Of course Sean coming home was well worth it. But I also learned something awesome that day. The celebration was held in a gym of what I am assuming is a fitness center for everyone on base. They had soda machines outside the gym... with no water in them. I was really feeling dehydrated so I decided I'd get a Powerade®. They only had Powerade Zero™ available. I had no idea what that was, and I was so hot and thirsty I didn't care.

To my surprise Powerade Zero™ was awesome! ZERO calories, ZERO sugar and 100% wonderful!! I am pre-diabetic so I have to watch my sugars, that is why I don't drink regular soda and I stay away from sugary drinks like Powerade®/Gatorade® unless I need the electrolytes.

So Powerade Zero™ solves 4 problems for me.
1- I get my daily water
2- doesn't taste boring
3- No sugar
4- Keeps me hydrated

I am SO sick today!!! Like, almost passing out twice, sick. I am not a fan!! But I still went swimming today. I normally swim 30 minutes but today I went 37. It was a good workout!

I woke up at 445 and went to the gym this morning. I swam for 30 minutes then sat in the steam room. I love working out in the morning. The gym isn't as crowded and I let all my stress melt away.
The only downside is that after the gym all I want to do is eat, eat, eat. Must work on that.

I was going to go at 5 this morning and swim for 45 minutes before work. But I woke up this morning with a horrible sore throat :( Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow.

On the bright side I did go to the gym on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday I did a water aerobics class and on Sunday I did swimming exercises. So I guess the weekend wasn't a total loss.

2/27/10

I started today off a little differently. I went to the gym with Megan and Talia at 9am. Today was Talia's first time so she had an orientation and Megan went with her. I brought my swimming gear and hung out in the hot tub for a while.
After the hot tub I started swimming laps. After about 10 minutes of laps they started a water aerobics class. I stayed for the whole hour. It was a good work out and I feel refreshed. I don't mind going to the gym and doing cardio and lifting weights, but it isn't my favorite. But swimming!!! I could do that forever.
When the class was over I still wanted to swim laps but I knew Megan needed to get going. I am glad I went though. Maybe I will hit my first weight loss goal by Hawaii!!

Today was easier. I went to the store on the way to work and picked up some healthy snacks for work. It made me less famished :)

I felt like I ate a lot today and I was never really super hungry. Now that I look at my calories it seems like I should have eaten more. You don't want to be too low on your calories or your body will think it is running out of food and you will retain weight. Stupid body is too smart for me.

I am also going to try to get more sleep. From everything I have read online getting enough sleep is just as important as eating right. You need to give your body time to relax.

Today was really hard. I normally snack all day at work. I didn't snack at all. I was STaRViNG!!! I text Kelly at 3 or so and told him to have dinner ready at 5 or I would DIE! It was ready by 4:55. He is amazing!

Food Journal

I am starting a food journal blog. I am really trying to loose weight before Kelly and I go to Hawaii on March 30th. I thought it would help me stick to my "diet" if at the end of every day I blogged about what I ate. That way I am (hopefully) going to stick with it and not cheat.

I call it a "diet" because I am still eating whatever I want. I just write down everything I eat and drink so I can control my caloric intake. I am trying to stay between 1800-2000 calories a day. I am normally way above that, I think. Since I never keep track I am not sure.

Next I am going to exercise more. I really am. As soon as I stop being so lazy :) but I figure I am bound to lose some weight if I just eat less.

I know I am not going to lose a bunch of weight in the next 5 weeks but baby steps are what I am going for right now. And if I lose some weight then I will feel better when I am in my swimsuit.
